Revealing secrets? ACF Fiorentina had a great past season in Italian Serie A. Several years dedicated to systematic strength and conditioning, incorporating eccentric overload training as a key ingredient, show off! Thus, the Florens team or ”Viola” suffered very few injuries this year! In fact, very few clubs at this competetive level in Europe, are at par with ACF Fiorentina in this regard. At the 4th Global Hamstring Project, Fiorentina’s Strength & Conditioning Coach, Luis Arrones, will reveal some of the secrets in his lecture: “Neuromuscular training in elite soccer players: optimising performance and preventing hamstring injury”. Luis Arrones, PhD is also a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Sports, University of Pablo de Olavide, Sevilla with more than 40 applied research publications focusing on conditioning and sports performance under his belt. Luis is currently a research fellow on a long-term project funded by the Qatar National Research Foundation with partners from ASPIRE, Doha, Qatar, FC Barcelona, the American Space Organization NASA, Texas A&M and the Karolinska Institute. With Fiorentina players serving as test subjects, the long-term over-all goal of this research is to define means to reduce hamstring injuries in soccer. Recent research results from this project, which studied hamstring muscle use by MRI in FC Barcelona players performing various exercise tasks, have been published elsewhere.
